A pedestrian got severe injuries in a Queens vehicle crash that happened on Friday afternoon, March 12, the police said.
The accident happened around 2:15 p.m. at Queens Boulevard and 84th Drive in Briarwood.
The Queens vehicle crash was followed by a loud noise, said a witness. The pedestrian was lying on the ground with a bloody head. The emergency team arrived at the location and took the victim to Jamaica Hospital; the doctors confirmed that the pedestrian was in a critical condition.
The gray Hyundai Elantra that hit the pedestrian had a partially shattered windshield. So far there is no information that the driver was charged.
Pedestrians are the most vulnerable participants in traffic. Not that they aren’t responsible for accidents, but when such a collision happens, these people end with severe injuries that often end fatally.
If you were involved in such an accident, after the initial medical help, make sure to seek an attorney who has a history with such cases. You should be able to file a compensation claim. The insurance company of the liable driver may argue that you weren’t careful, or that you wore dark clothes, and crossed the street in an unmarked place, but it’s important not to give up. The insurers may offer a low settlement. Many people usually accept the first settlement, not knowing that they don’t have to.
Your attorney will advise you to allow them to negotiate for the right offer. Sometimes the insurance company doesn’t offer any good settlement, so the whole case might end in court.
No matter what happened, having an attorney by your side will give you more strength. Your only concern should be recovering instead of worrying about the money.
