Four civilians and a firefighter were injured this morning after a crane on top of a Hell’s Kitchen skyscraper caught fire and partially collapsed onto 10th Ave.
The five-alarm fire broke out at 7:25 this morning at a construction site located at 550 10th Ave and the headquarters of Covenant House. The fire was under control by 9:00 AM.
Video footage shows the crane atop the vacant building on fire before a piece of the structure breaks off and collapses into the building across the street.
The four civilians and firefighters suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time. An operator was on top of the crane when the fire broke out but was able to get away safely with no injuries.
