Five people were injured and hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash in Parma in the area of W. Ridge Road and Hinkleyville Road on Sunday night, February 14.
Monroe County Sheriffs closed the area between Hinkleyville Road and Clarkson Parma Townline Road while the crews were working to clear the scene.
According to the deputies, one of the cars crossed over the center line and directly crashed into a car in the opposite lane. So far it’s not known why the driver crossed the opposite lane. The firefighters say they had to use the jaws of life to remove some of the passengers out of the cars.
The car that was going eastbound crossed the center line and head-on hit the car that was going westbound and then flipped over, said Lt. Pete Zambuto with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
So far there aren’t further details about the condition of any of the hospitalized people, and the two-vehicle crash in Parma remains under investigation.
One of the reasons for many car accidents is crossing in the opposite lane; this leads in almost all cases to a direct collision with an upcoming vehicle.
Direct collisions are often fatal and leave people with severe injuries that take a long time to recovery.
In such major accidents, the police will have to determine what led the driver to move in the opposite direction. Sometimes it can be because of alcohol, but very often icy roads and medical conditions can lead to such acts.
However the accident happens, the victims must seek medical help. All medical records will be later used in case the victims decide to seek a compensation claim from the insurance company of the liable driver.
