Last Monday, people on the Upper East Side were enjoying their dinner outside when the unthinkable happened. Diners at Delizia 92, on East 92nd Street and Second Avenue narrowly escaped injury and death when a Cadillac Escalade crashed into their outdoor dining area.
At about 9:30 pm on Monday, August 24, two cars collided right outside the restaurant. The crash involved an Audi sedan and a Cadillac Escalade SUV. The police did not say exactly what caused the collision.
As a result of the crash, one of the vehicles crashed into the wood barrier outside the Italian restaurant. It also knocked into several of the outdoor tents, sending them crashing to the ground.
Miraculously, no diners were injured during the accident. However, the person driving the Audi did suffer injuries and was taken to the local hospital. Police arranged for the driver to be taken to New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. They were treated for their injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.
There were several other people injured in the crash. None of these were patrons at the restaurant. They were other people near or on the sidewalk at the time of the accident. No charges have been filed at this time.
Depending on what the police investigation reveals, there may be charges filed against one or both of the drivers. The police did not indicate if alcohol or drugs played a role in this crash.
For the people injured in this crash, they will have a potential legal claim against the drivers. They may also have a claim against the restaurant owner, depending on what the investigation reveals.
