Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc has issued a voluntary recall of 5 Neutrogena and Aveeno aerosol sunscreens after some products were found to have trace levels of benzene, a chemical that can cause cancer with repeated exposure.
The healthcare giant claims that while benzene is not an ingredient in any of their sunscreen products, it was detected in some samples of their finished aerosol sunscreen products. The affected products are as follows:
- Neutrogena Beach Defense® aerosol sunscreen
- Neutrogena Cool Dry Sport aerosol sunscreen
- Neutrogena Invisible Daily™ defense aerosol sunscreen
- Neutrogena Ultra Sheer® aerosol sunscreen
- Aveeno Protect + Refresh aerosol sunscreen.
Johnson & Johnson said they are working to actively remove the products from all retailer shelves nationwide. They have urged consumers to stop using the affected products immediately and discard them. For questions or to request a refund, Johnson & Johnson is asking consumers to contact the JJCI Customer Care Center by calling 1-800-458-1673. More product information can be found on the Neutrogena and Aveeno websites.
