A Manhattan man has saved a stranger’s life in a Harlem crash and ended up losing his leg. The man’s legs were crushed by an SUV a second after he alerted another pedestrian to jump out of the way.
Jose Colon’s left leg wasn’t savable. The sixty-year-old man was pinned against the wall of a Harlem deli on Sunday night, April 18, by a grey Honda SUV that crashed with another vehicle at 135th St. and Broadway before jumping the curb.
A surveillance video of the Harlem crash shows Colon walking toward the deli when the car veers onto the sidewalk and goes straight to him and another man nearby. Colon was gesturing to the other pedestrian who was turned with his back and eating out of a takeout container, not aware of the car.
The man then steps back and moves away from the speeding car, but Colon wasn’t so lucky. The video shows that he tried to run inside the store when the Honda crashed into him (he disappears from the view in the numerous flying glass and debris).
Such accidents can change the victim’s life to a point of no return. In such a case the victim must seek a compensation claim from the liable driver. And this type of claim shouldn’t only be for the medical bills, but also for inability to work and earn in the future, loss of quality of life, pain and suffering as well as for all operations, and medical devices the victim might need.
Make sure to seek a skilled New York car accident attorney who will help you get a decent compensation claim that will help you move on with your life. If you’re looking for a car crash lawyer near Harlem, our team at Cellino Law is here for you; schedule your first consultation today.
