Two Manhattan window washers injured in a 20-foot fall after a scaffolding malfunction were hospitalized on November 14. The accident happened when the scaffolding gave way at a Hudson Yards skyscraper, causing the washers to fall 20 feet below. The scaffolding had functioning problems and collapsed, a Fire Department spokesman said.

The incident took place around 11:20 a.m. at 30 Hudson Yards at West 33rd Street and 10th Avenue. The men fell at least 20 feet or two stories. The fall was stopped by a wooden shed-like building, said the spokesman.

When the first responders arrived at the scene, they weren’t able to reach the men, because the building was extremely high. The firefighters cut a hole in a window to bring the men back inside.  Both workers were transported to Bellevue Hospital. They were in a serious but stable condition. Doctors expect them to be well.

The Related Companies’ building is 1296 feet tall (one of the tallest towers in the west side development).

Construction workers, firefighters, and even wind washers who are constantly at high risk of injuries are eligible for workers’ compensation. If you suffered an injury at work, don’t hesitate to inform your employer. Even if your job is bringing you a low risk of injuries, you will still need medical help. Even if you work from home, please inform your employer about this.

The workers’ compensation claim will cover your medical expenses, damages, lost wages, and any other fees related to your injury. If you fear that you might not get it, or if you think that the process of filing the claim is complex for you, feel free to seek legal help from a suitable workers’ compensation attorney.
