Feb. 23, 2021 – At 7:12 a.m., while traveling alone to a film shoot, Tiger Woods was involved in a serious single-vehicle accident in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. According to police investigations, Woods crossed the center line on a steep hill before a curve then is believed to have overcorrected, running off the shoulder of the road, sending his car rolling down an embankment. Police have stated that alcohol was not a factor in the accident, but a full investigation is ongoing and will likely take weeks to conclude. According to police reports, 13 accidents have occurred at this location over the last year.
Woods was taken to a Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles where he has undergone several procedures to treat serious orthopedic leg injuries. According to chief medical officer Anish Mahajan, Woods suffered “comminuted open fractures to the tibia and fibula, which means both major bones in his lower right leg broke into multiple pieces and poked through the skin”. Doctors inserted a rod into Mr. Wood’s tibia to stabilize his foot and ankle using pins and screws and also relieved the swelling in his legs. Despite the severity of his injuries, doctors are cautiously optimistic that Tiger can make a full return, although it will be a long, hard process.
Countless professional golfers have issued statements, thankful that Mr. Woods is alive and wishing him a speedy, full recovery. The team at Cellino Law feels the same way, and while he is not from New York, Tiger has played many rounds of golf in the NYC area, had an apartment here, and docked his yacht in the area.
